If you have an accident in the work place, cut your finger, fall and break a leg, someone is there, trained in first aid, to assist (until professional help arrives), or to patch you up with simple dressings and send you on your way.
But what about your mental health? what happens when you start to feel stressed, overwhelmed, or god forbid if you start to experience mental health problems? is there a first aider to pick you up?
With Mental Health First Aid Training we aim to take an existing worker and develop them to pick up the role of mental health first aid. This will include:
This is backed up with full supervision, telephone support and ongoing refresher days. In tandem we will also work with management to:
If your staff feel supported they will feel less stressed. As stress is the major contributor to mental health problems and health problems in general, reducing stress through appropriate support will lead to a happier, healthier workforce. A workforce that feels supported will be more likely to come to work, less days will be lost to ill health, and those suffering stress can be supported to maintain some working life even through tough times.
We will not accept everyone onto this training. We need the candidate to have a good degree of empathy, a good emotional grounding, a non judgemental attitude, and a willingness to be with people who are struggling emotionally. We ascertain this in a simple informal interview and move forward as appropriate.
The cost and structure of the training depend entirely on the organisation we are working with, how many people will be trained and over what period they are to be supported. Please call us to arrange an informal discussion of your needs and we will be glad to give you a clear comprehensive quote.
Equipping your workforce to have a better experience of life will promote a happier work place, a more productive workforce and less time lost to stress related sick days. There will be less staff turn over as people normally choose to stay where they feel supported.
